David Lynch has left Twin Peaks

After weeks of rumours that the Twin Peaks revival on Showtime was dead before it really began, the unfortunate news broke on Sunday morning from David Lynch himself. The episodes in the proposed revived third season were written jointly by David Lynch and Mark Frost co-creators of the show, if the show was to still continue with Showtime it is likely all the scripts written will be used with Frost serving as director instead of Lynch.
A few places reported that the show had been completely cancelled, Lynch took to his Facebook and Twitter to clear up the confusion with this message;

"Dear Facebook Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently."

Showtime have recently responded with a message of their own;

"We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm."

Supernatural ending?

Let's talk Supernatural, I have been hooked on the show since roughly Season 2 due to the UK being delayed massively when it came to television shows a few years ago. Ever since then I have hung on to every word of the show like a little fan girl (I'm a 24 year old man right now and still do), however since about Season 6/7 when the ratings took a hit I began to think about how the show could wrap up and I would still be happy that it ended. I know right, tall order for a day one (UK permitted) fan, I have literally given the ending of this show more forethought than any other show I watch.

Anyway, back to why I started this article, I think that Sam and Dean having a "happy ending" meaning that they both get out the life, get married and have kids live the normal life, would be the completely wrong way to go in my opinion. Yes, Sam and Dean worked their asses off and even died multiple times in their line of work for mankind, however a decade of them doing what they do and they have became so entwined up in that existence that life outside of it makes no sense for the pair story-wise.

Since day one, for Dean is has ALWAYS been about being a hunter and nothing else besides his Dad and Sam really mattered to him especially after John died. So for Dean to have a normal life outside of the hunting world, for me, makes absolutely no sense at all. Sam on the other hand, he spent his entirety getting away from that world until John died. So for me it's as simple as Sam gets his life free of the demonic/hunting while Dean has to die doing what he believes he was put on Earth for. Which would be unfortunate for Lisa & Ben (if they still remembered), however I see them playing a part in the ending.

The way I see it, the world can NEVER be 100% free of demons/ghosts or anything monstrous the brothers have came across in their time hunting. Far too much has happened with new and evil beings for them truly all to be wiped out. I mean they already closed the gates of hell in Season 2 and there still is countless occurrences of evil happenings (coincidentally only in the US, got to love television shows ha).

So, anyway, back to why I started this piece I wanted to give you guys and girls my thoughts on how I think the show should end leaving me in a state of happiness or as close as can be considering my baby is no more.

Castiel & Crowley

Castiel will become the ruler of Heaven, a new version of God if you will, not the creator just in name alone he will be the "God" people adhere to. With Castiel being the new ruler, the war among Angels come to an end and peace is restored above. As the saying goes the "as above, so below", after Castiel becoming the top dog upstairs, Crowley is now the king of Hell, the devil in the absence of one. Same rules apply to Crowley as Castiel, when taking power the take over responsibilities once held by their predecessors. Before returning to their rightful places as God and the Devil, Castiel and Crowley come to an agreement (or as close as those two entities would allow) in which the good will go up, while the bad will go down. Kind of back to how it was pre the end of days.

Sam & Dean

So back to what truly matters, what will happen to Sam & Dean, the way I see it the truly happy ending is a no go. For me, Dean has to go out doing what his was put here to do, fighting the evil of this Earth, Dean dying in the line of duty and Sammy is left here to live his "normal life" that he wants.

THE END!

I know I have gone into the details of what I would like to see, however this is how I see the finale actually playing out some specifics. I see Dean on deaths door (specifics I do not mind, as long as it is a serious situation), while on the floor Castiel is over him ready to heal him as countless times before. Dean looks him in the eye and says "it's my time Cas, I can't do this anymore".

While Dean is left dying due to his injuries, Castiel continues the fight with Sam (not sure who or what they are fighting) upon defeating said "baddie", Sam rushes to Dean and starts yelling that he has to stay, there is no life without each other, you know, the typical Sam and Dean back and forth we have seen many a time. Dean continues to tell Sam how he can not continue to do this all the time, at some point they have to die and Dead has had enough and wants the sweet relief he has earned from three decades of of fighting. 

Before crossing over, after he has given the Dean speech, he leans in and whispers something to Sam, which we do not hear and also passes him something we can't see. Fade to black, cue Sam knocking on an oddly familiar door, the door opens to Ben, Sam hands him the keys to the Impala and informs him it was his fathers who was a great man (giving him a traditional Winchester speech, we do not hear the specifics of).

"Happy 1st Birthday Dean" is a banner we see hanging above a crib, "Goodnight, Dean" says Sam and the show ends, a nice way to wrap it up, considering that was Dean's first ever words in the show. Sam's now wife, leans over Dean's crib an starts to sing this...

Grave Encounters review

After recently reviewing "Extraterrestrial" which was made by The Vicious Brothers, I had to review the film that made me fall in love with their work. I know a lot of people find the whole Found Footage sub-genre to be boring and played out, however when done correctly it is terrifying, here is what I thought of the "brothers" directorial debut.

Opening up with Jerry Hartfield (Wilkinson) who is the producer of the popular "Grave Encounters" a paranormal investigation television series, he introduces us to the hose Lance Preston (Rogerson) [who to me is clearly a parody of Ghost Adventures host Zak Bagans]. Hartfield goes on to tell us that the show was cancelled after its fifth episode and the footage from the sixth episode went mysteriously missing, the footage was found some time later and brought to Hartfield. The film is headlined by Lance, Sasha Parker an occult specialist, Matt White the camera guy, T.C Gibson and Houston Grey who are all set out to investigate the notoriously haunted and abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital were nearly 100,000 patients were treated.

Caretaker (Rathie) of the Hospital gives them a tour of the site, that night the crew set up their investigatory equipment and begin their overnight investigation while locked within the hospital. It is now when the truly strange things begin to occur, creepy noises, unexplained events and slamming doors. Lance notices ghostly apparitions and orbs in a picture they have taken, while retrieving their cameras to check for evidence Matt goes missing. This is when it ALL kicks off!

Overall, the film was a resounding success in my opinion, while the film is obviously not an original concept by any stretch of the imagination. The Vicious Brothers really make it their own, if you're a fan of the sub-genre or not you will struggle to find a better paranormal based Horror in the past decade in my opinion. For me it's at least on par with "Paranormal Activity" and that film completely changed the Found Footage/Paranormal genre.

The acting is pretty good considering the film is such a low budget production, acting is usually the first thing directors give up when they have no money in Horror, however the brothers seem to have cast more than capable actors/actresses for their film. The asylum they use leaves the audience feeling uncomfortable and uneasy knowing even to walk the halls in the day would be a horrific experience. The location scout on this hit the ball out the park with this location.

I highly recommend you check this film out especially if you're a fan of the sub-genre, if you are not check it out anyway I have a feeling it may sway you to becoming a believer in the sub-genre once again. While the concept is unoriginal, I GUARANTEE the scares are all original, these guys do more than just scare they make you feel like you're stuck right there with the crew. If you're looking for some scares this Halloween, this film is for you!

"Deliver Us From Evil" review

Another film that claims to be "inspired by actual accounts", anybody else getting a bit sick of this bullshit marketing scheme? Well Scott Derrickson is, the director of the film came out and admitted the film does not use any of the cases of real Police Officer Ralph Sarchie, they use a completely original plot for the film from Scott Derrickson and Paul Harris Boardman.

Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) is a Bronx police officer who uses his "radar" for trouble to track down cases he thinks he should work on. Turns out that his "radar" is actually a psychic link to the demonic underworld. This most recent blink on his radar hands off a triplet of bad-ass marines who have returned from Iraq maybe with more baggage of the evil variety than they left with. It is up to Sarchie and his partner Butler (Joel McHale) who himself is a pretty big bad-ass who brings it upon himself to help send these evil demons back to Hell.

The film made some great casting calls, I for one have never thought that Eric Bana was a great actor, actually scratch that I never even thought he was that good really he was just another guys whose films I didn't mind. However in this I thought he was a very inspired casting he was a thoroughly enjoyable watch as were McHale, Harris and Ramirez. There was a big slip up though when it came to Olivia Munn she was bland, boring, unemotional, felt like she was only cast for some "eye-candy"and her Brooklyn accent was hilariously bad.

Overall, the film is scattered full of confusing characteristics with its constant references to The Doors and their lyrics, hieroglyphics, animals more specifically owls which all culminate together in the "show down" scene. A very enjoyable watch, full of jump scares, well written scenes, great character development and suspense that will have you on the end of your seat. What happens when "Sinister" meets "Seven"? THIS!!!

Carrie 2013 review

So I finally got to watch "Carrie" last night, I had been looking forward to watching it since it was announced I believe 3 years ago now. I was and still am a huge of the original from 1976 Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie were phenomenal in their roles. They got Oscar nominations for their roles I believe, "you will know her name" is also a terrible tag-line for the movie we ALL already know her name being Horror fans or not.

Within the few minutes of meeting the friendless high school reject, she suffers what I can only imagine is the ultimate demeaning thing that could happen to a young woman when she gets her period while showering with her classmates. Which is made a whole lot worse by queen bitch of the school Chris played by Portia Doubleday orchestrates the whole class in a chant of "Plug it up!" while they are throwing feminine products over Carrie's cowered body.

Sue Snell played by Gabriella Wilde after initially taking part in the antics soon feels for Carrie, in order to make things right between herself and Carrie she persuades her boyfriend High School jock Tommy played by Ansel Elgort to take Carrie to the upcoming prom. Shortly before being asked to prom Carrie discovers that she has telekinetic powers (the ability to move objects big or small with the power of her mind). Carrie first of all declines the invitation later she nervously accepts ignoring the request of her mother to not attend. Carrie makes her own dress, during her first ever dance all her anxiety, pain and anguish all lift and she is filled with happiness and glee. Until something goes horribly, horribly, horribly wrong for the young girl, while on stage with Tommy after they have unsuspectingly been crowned prom queen and king.

While on stage Carrie is part of a horrible prank organised by Chris and her boyfriend Tommy in which releases her uber Carrie powers in which can only be described as a hell-hath-no-fury ending. Which I will leave to either your imagination or if you bring yourselves to watch it. I will say, HOLY HECK!!!

This time around in Periece's adaptation they venture much more into Carrie experimenting with her powers, in the De Palma version Carrie has very limited if any control over her powers. In the recent release Carrie is much more in control of her powers and what she is doing, while in "anger mode" Chloe Moretz was directed to do some awful decisions that never really went with the character like silly post credit eye edits and these kind of Japanese horror style body jerks. These characteristics are a waste of Chloes talent, plus Chloe is too much of a pretty, confident looking Hollywood looking girl, which doesn't work for who she is portraying.

The original release had a much creepier vibe than the modern release and to go with that this new film was lacking in tension or character development and chemistry. It didn't feel at all like Tommy had any sincere feelings towards Carrie it felt like he was just doing it because Sue told him too. I know this movie was never meant to be a straight up Horror, a lot of Stephen King's work usually isn't this movie just wasn't creepy at all like it could/should have been.

Going into this having seen the original myself it left me a bit disappointed, I guess if you went into this never seeing the original it was be a better film. Right now for me I'd say 3/10 going in as a new viewer to the story probably 5/10.

New trailer for "Carrie"

Originally set to release this Summer, "Carrie" was unfortunately pushed back to October. However, we have seen a good few pictures of the film plus a teaser earlier this year but now we get a much better look of what to expect in the remake.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins "Solace"

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the latest big name to join the cast of Afonso Poyart's "Solace" according to several reports. Morgan joins the cast along side other big timers Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell.

The New Line Cinema project deals with a clairvoyant doctor, John Clancy played by the incredible Hopkins who is enlisted by the police to help catch a serial killer. Morgan will play an FBI agent that ends up working along side Hopkins character.

Misha Collins back in "Supernatural"...

Season 9, Misha has been a big part of "Supernatural" over the past few years. It is now being reported that Misha Collins will return as a series regular for the ninth season, it is also being said that he is set to direct an episode as well. He was a series regular during the fifth and sixth season, but of late we have seen less and less of him unfortunately. In case you missed the announcement by CW here it is;

"February 11, 2013 (Burbank, California) – The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit ARROW, its top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. "We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit ARROW and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season."

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season. Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49."

"Supernatural" renewed for ninth season

 Everybody sort of already knew we'd see the Winchester brothers adventures for another year on our Televisions, but yesterday The CW officially confirmed the show had been renewed. They announced the early renewal of three shows "Supernatural", "Arrow" and "Vampire Diaries".

Top 3 TV Shows

So I decided to do a feature on what I think are the best TV Shows currently airing, this is no way me saying "oh you're wrong, these are the best shows". These are just the shows that I love watching the most every week. This list will not include Sitcoms, well because that is just a whole other list for a whole other day. Thought I would mix it up an only name my top 3 shows, everybody does a top 5 or even a top 10 but when you're going as far as naming 10 you are naming a good 80% if not more of the shows you watch. It is easy to just name them an not put any thought into it. I was also thinking about including an honourable mentions section, but after I wrote this piece I put a list of all the shows I'd put in my "honourable mentions" section. I turned out to be every other show I watched ha ha, I just couldn't pin down shows. I'd love to hear what you guys/girls are watching give me some ideas of what to watch next, so just leave a comment below an let me know.

1 - Sons Of Anarchy

Obviously it had to be "Sons Of Anarchy", Kurt Sutter is an absolute genius. Sons combines every genre we all love, it has something for everybody. There isn't a single thing about this show that I don't like, all the characters are well defined, there is twists to keep you coming back for more, the intensity of the story will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode. The show is so gritty at times you feel like looking away to avoid seeing something you feel you shouldn't but you know you have to.

 "A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance in his life between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club."

2 - The Walking Dead

Another show from a small network, "The Walking Dead" I originally heard about "The Walking Dead" a couple a few years ago when it was just a comic book series. But when I heard it was being made into a TV Show I was apprehensive to say the least I mean we hadn't seen a zombie TV Series, but my apprehension were completely off. "The Walking Dead" turned out to be by far the best Horror/Drama show there has ever been. I have watched countless Zombie-related films, the show is even better than all of these combined.

3 - Supernatural

Supernatural is easily my favourite show on Television right now I've been watching it since 2006/2007. Just because it is my favourite it doesn't obviously make it the best at times the story lacks the intensity of the above two shows. Its kind of hard to review this show its overall story changes each season, but even admitting that I'm hung on every word uttered in this show. Its kind of like "X-Files" in a way but more of a Horror version. This isn't the only show that revolves around supernatural events as its main theme "Grimm" & "True Blood" (much more vampire than supernatural, but you catch my drift).

"Zombieland" TV Series?

It's looking more and more likely that a "Zombieland" sequel is not going to happen, which I personally believe is heartbreaking I loved the original. But, the Zombieland TV Series that has been rumoured since I'd say 2011 appears to be on the up and up. Back in October 2011, it was announced that Fox and Paramount Pictures were discussing bringing onto the TV scene.

Back then Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick the original screenwriters for the movie were working on scripts for to be developed as 30 minute episodes. For those that were unaware, like myself "Zombieland" was originally developed as a TV Pilot which was written by Reese and Wernick so these guys have had the basic layout for a TV Series set up for a long time.

It's being reported that the project is moving onto the casting stages an the production company has sent out casting call sheets for the main characters. It's looking likely that the characters are going to differ a bit from the film, below we have some apparent information on what the characters are going to be like.


“Tallahassee is still kind of a snarky weirdo, but he seems to have a much less spiky relationship with Columbus. He and Columbus have a pretty amusing thing where they riff on the fact that Steven Seagal movies always have three-word titles like “Marked for Justice” or “May Cause Diarrhea.” But Tallahassee also dispenses homespun wisdom about how to feel happy with your life. He also tells a weird story about being in a trailer park with a perpetually nude Matthew McConaughey. He also has a somewhat heartwarming scene where he tells Columbus that he’s been wandering aimlessly for a long time, but maybe he’s been put here for a reason — to help Columbus and the others.

Columbus is much the same, except that he tracks down his grandma and grandpa (Bubbie and Peepaw) only to find them recently zombiefied. Also, Columbus is trying to deal with his newfound relationship with Wichita, after their first kiss. He has started calling her “Krista,” her real name — but there are some problems, especially after she finds him reading a book about fatherhood. He tries to organize a romantic scavenger hunt for her in the IKEA they’re camping out in, but it goes kind of horribly.

Wichita is still trying to look after Little Rock, trying to teach her math with problems about someone stealing from a liquor store and jumping on a train going 42 miles per hour, with a cop chasing in a car going 88 miles per hour. We also learn a lot more about Wichita’s backstory, including how she ran away from her father after he had her stealing people’s Christmas presents — and later, she found out she had a sister who was also being a grifter with her dad.

Little Rock seems actually kind of excited about meeting Columbus’ grandparents, before they turn out to be zombies. And she shares some of her own backstory, about how her dad parked her at a school while he went off grifting on his own — and then yanked her out of school right before a dance that she was looking forward to.”

Bare in mind that none of these details have been officially announced, with that being said what television station wouldn't want this on their network. Look at the success of some of the other Horror related shows on television now "Supernatural" has reached its 9th Season, "Walking Dead" is one of the favourite shows in the US and the UK plus the likes of "True Blood" and "American Horror Story".

"Ghostbuster 3" filming next summer?

 I have had this post saved in my drafts for about 4 hours now, I couldn't bring myself to post it. This whole process seems to be dragging on and starting to get on my nerves a bit, I mean I would love to see the film but damn this is annoying. This is pretty exciting news, but don't let your inner child get the better of you, you may be hugely let down.

"At this point, you’d be forgiven for taking any Ghostbusters 3 updates with a big heaping dose of scepticism. But the projected summer start actually has a little weight to it, since it’s already impacting other plans over at Paramount. The news came buried in a Deadline story about Reitman’s upcoming Draft Day, a “Moneyball-esque” film that has Kevin Costner set to star.
According to the report, Paramount decided to hit pause on that project because there wouldn’t have been enough time to shoot it before Reitman was due on Sony’s Ghostbusters 3 set. Costner’s career is on the rise again, and Paramount’s definitely interested in seeing him back on top — the studio has him on board the Tom Clancy thrillers Jack Ryan and Without Remorse, with a possible standalone spin-off planned for the future. It seems doubtful they’d drop a promising sports pic with him if Reitman’s Ghostbusters 3 plans were less than solid.
If all goes according to schedule, the timing for Ghostbusters 3 couldn’t be better. A mid-2013 shoot suggests a 2014 release date, which would coincide with the first Ghostbusters‘ 30th anniversary."

"Chernobyl Diaries" new poster

Here's a new poster from the upcoming Horror/Supernatural "Chernobyl Diaries", if you are going to take any advice from me this year I recommend watching this film. Will be a lot better than any other horror film this summer in my opinion. The film is set to release May 25th in the United States and I believe some time towards the end of June in the UK.

"Ghostbusters 3" update

The newest update on "Ghostbusters 3" is not good, not good at all. We all seen it coming unfortunately, but we all held that hope, that one day Murray would decide to take on the film.
Not only is this a blow to the people my age 21 or so who would have seen this film growing up, it is a blow to the older generation who were forced to watch it by their children an fell in love with it an the people younger than me who will never feel the happiness of a "Ghostbusters" film. Looks like they will have to stick to the first two.

I honestly don’t know. At this point it’s in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn’t want to be involved. He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it. I know we’d have a lot of fun [but] I can’t be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know”
Then speaking about the possible Bill Murray re-casting, Aykroyd admitted that one possibility was another acting portraying Venkman but that he didn’t want to disrespect the original;
[We] are not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."
