Guillermo del Toro talks "Pacific Rim 2"

Guillermo del Toro has been speaking recently with Collider about the sequel to his hugely successful 2013 blockbuster "Pacific Rim". When asked about the timeline he said;

"It’s a few years after the first one.  It’s not an immediate follow-up.  It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat.  It’s quite a jump."

Del Toro went on to say;

"Yes.  It’s quite a different movie from the first one in that, but I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn and Charlie.  They are really, really – I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them.  I love writing for Charlie and Burn.  I mean, [Burn's] in Crimson Peak for that reason, because I love working with him.  You’re gonna get a lot of that, but the Kaijus are very different and you’re gonna see a very different type of the robots I think.  It’s gonna be quite a different adventure."

Also with this interview coming out, in the past couple of days we have learnt from Forbes that Guillermo del Toro has given in his finalised script for Warner Bros and DC's "Justice League Dark". When we will see that is down to WB executives moving it forward.

Guillermo del Toro talks Pacific Rim future

Turns out Guillermo del Toro is hard at work with screen writing pal Zak Penn on the sequel to "Pacific Rim", here is what he had to say about the future of his potential trilogy;

"The direction we're going in is very different from the first," del Toro divulges. "All I can say is some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies,’'so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one. I hope people like it but you're gonna get a very different experience from the first one."

"We got the first draft of the movie now, and we are going to spend another 4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production," del Toro confirmed. "We start pre-production next year in August-September and start shooting November-December next year."

"Pacific Rim" trailer

It's finally here, Warner Bros have blessed us with the main trailer for "Pacific Rim" which releases this Summer. The film is veiled in a sense of mystery, but now we have a much clearer look of what to expect. If you want the film to be that bit extra mysterious then don't watch the trailer, but I assure you that you really are missing out.

A new "Pacific Rim" poster

Along with some new pictures posted earlier from "Pacific Rim" it looks like we also have a new poster. This one features the Japanese Jaeger Coyote Tango, which their official Facebook describes as being a "Giant Japanese Techno-Tyrant."

"Pacific Rim" new photos

Warner Bros. has released a few new pictures over the past week from their upcoming Science Fiction epic "Pacific Rim".

"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse."

Guillermo Del Toro talks Dark Universe

One of the many, many projects that Guillermo is said to be working on is "Dark Universe" which is set to be about the darker side of the DC Universe. Even though the film originally started off as a rumour, is turns out that Del Toro likes the idea a whole lot. While speaking to TotalFilm, Del Toro spoke about the film.

"I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe. We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens."

"It's going really really well. It's like meeting old friends. I grew up with Demon Etrigan, with Swamp Thing, with Deadman, so these are characters that are near and dear to my heart. I'd love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig."

I'd personally love to see Del Toro stick his teeth into a Constantine reboot, the first with Keanu Reeves was a pretty good film. However, if the film was given a Del Toro twist it could be pretty bad ass! The line up for the film is said to include Swamp Thing, The Demon, John Constantine, Deadman, The Spectre and the mother & daughter team of Zatara and Zatanna.

"Pacific Rim" 6 new pictures

Super Bowl Sunday didn't just bring us some beautiful trailers it also brought us some new pictures from the incredible looking "Pacific Rim". Not many people I know have even heard of this film which is silly, the film has a $200 Million budget and stars Charlie Hunnam & Idris Elba EVERYBODY should know about this film! I have a great feeling about this film, it will be like a modern day Science Fictrion version of Godzilla.

Guillermo Del Toro finally talks "Pacific Rim"

Guillermo Del Toro has had a rough time over the past few years, he was set to direct the two upcoming Hobbit films but had to leave due to the lack of traction of the production due to the financial concerns with New Line. The messed up thing is that shortly after the film went into production without him but with Peter Jackson in the directors chair. He's popped up here and there talking about speaking on his work with bringing the Hulk back to TV. Today, we finally got some news on a new film from him "Pacific Rim".

"Del Toro: So much of the creation of the movie was having the best creative experience I’ve ever had in Hollywood.
Total Film: What sort of scale are you working on?
Del Toro: When we’re talking about the physicality of the fight, we ended up building several blocks of Hong Kong. And literally demolished them. We built a building and then we took down the buildings. We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house. We started them on hydraulic rigs that shoot and elevated them and moved them round so you could really get a sense of the physical nature driving a robot like this.
Total Film: How did Charlie Hunnam get cast?
Del Toro: The funny thing is Charlie was one of my only two choices for the prince of Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I met with him. He screen tested. I loved Charlie before Sons Of Anarchy. He always brought a certain honesty. He’s the kind of guy that women will love who guys won’t hate. He’s the right side of honest and good looking that you don’t want to punch him in the face. You want to have a pint with the guy. You want to take him to the pub. There’s male bonding energy with this guy that I thought was perfect for the character."

Somebody must be twisting Guillermo's arm while I was writing this, I also found this first picture of Idris Elba in some sort of armoured suit from the new film. That's a pretty interesting suit that he's wearing, it kind of reminds me of some sort of anime related look. It looks like Guillermo is taking a leaf out of Ridley Scott's book an starting the hype very, very early, good on you Guillermo!
