Certificate: 15 (UK)
Runtime: 91 Minutes
Director: Brian A Miller
Synopsis: "When his daughter is kidnapped, a retired assassin is drawn back into the life he gave up. To rescue her, he must confront his former rival." IMDB

The film revolves around Paul (Patric) a single father who finds out his college daughter Beth (Mategna) has unexpectedly disappeared, he takes help from her school "friend" Angela (Lowndes) to track her down. Finding himself fighting off countless bad guys with the finesse of ALL action movie heroes before him. After all his ass kicking and gun slinging he works his way up to a man called The Pharmacy (50 Cent) who has been supplying drugs to young women stuck in that world. He is merely a stepping stone to the real "big baddie" because you know Action flicks have to have one. The real villain is Omar (Willis) who is in turn the crime boss who wife and daughter were killed twenty years previously by Patric himself, they were blown up in a car intended for Omar.

Decades later Omar is still hell bent on getting Paul for what he done, Paul enlists the help of his former colleague Sam (Cusack) who shows that he has also not lost ability to tear things up when needed. After meeting up with his old colleague that is when the proverbial poop hits the fan, resulting in two vastly over the top shoot outs, which I personally enjoyed I love some good over the top action.

However, all the action scenes in the world couldn't make up for such a shoddy script and below par acting displays. The script relied A LOT on the charisma of Jason Patric, turns out he didn't have any at all he was a bland, boring monotone "hero" who you never actually sided with. Unfortunately John Cusack doesn't get the screen time he needs and deserves, it says a lot when the only acting performance that wasn't below par came from 50 Cent the man who isn't even an actor by trade. Everybody else was sub par especially Gia Mantegna, Jessica Lowndes and Jason Partic.

Overall, the film could be considered a "popcorn flick" in the sense that it has no character development, indulging story, over the top action and "blockbuster" names who do not try. The film is complete with a list of overly used cliches and stereotypes;
  • Bad guy gone good,
  • Lost loved one,
  • Invincible "hero",
  • Unlikely sidekick,
  • Bid baddie who talks instead of doing his deed,
  • An Asian who happens to know martial arts,
  • The "hero" is wounded in the final "battle".
Talk about yawn, the film goes from bad to worse as the half assed script scrolls on by without anybody caring for sensibility or even the real world. I would personally avoid it at all costs, unless you are a Partic fan (which I only have to assume some people are considering he gets lead roles) while the film will fill the void if you're looking for a senseless action flick then maybe go here if ALL choices are out the window.

3/10

Bruce Willis vs Jason Patric in "The Prince" trailer

This is genuinely the first I am hearing about this movie, and to be honest I am disappointed in myself I'm usually a huge follower of Bruce Willis' work. This just seems to have slipped by me, the movie seems to be a mix of Action/Crime/Thriller with a story we've seen before. However, that is not to say we don't enjoy a nice revenge movie.

Harrison Ford joins...

"The Expendables 3" this news made my day!!! Stallone himself broke the news on Twitter and when I seen the Tweet I nearly exploded with excitement, the only downfall that comes with it is that Bruce Willis has dropped out of the film according to the Tweet.

Bruce Willis lands ANOTHER role?

Bruce Willis makes a hell of a lot of movies, so when I say he is in a new one you won't be surprised and over the years he has made some absolute garbage like "North" and "Look Whos Talking Too" but he has made some classics like "Die Hard" and "Looper". He usually keeps himself to three genres Action, Comedy and Drama the three he is good at, the new film he is set to be in is being made by Emmett/Furla Willis has previously made three films with this company "16 Blocks", "Lay The Favourite" and "Fire With Fire" and now it looks like his fourth is in the works "Expiration".

The plot for this film sounds eerily familiar, see if you can guess what;
"Willis will play a hitman who is looking for an antidote before he dies after he's been poisoned."

Is that not the EXACT plot of "Crank" or am I just being an idiot? The film has been given a $60 million budget, so Willis will fit right in with this film. Let's imagine cars blowing up? People being shot? Car chases? All in all I am a little excited for the film being a Willis fan for longer than I can remember.

"Die Hard 6" script is in the works...

Really? Like they have to tell us these things any more, haven't we all just came to expect Hollywood will milk anything to the point it becomes laughable. The title itself doesn't make this film even sound like a good idea "Die Hardest"? Come on, they could have done better than that. I still haven't brought myself to watch "A Good Day To Die Hard", I'm just worried they are going to ruin a great franchise "Die Hard" from 1988 is personally one of my all time favourite films, lets hope that I'm wrong an they can/have kept the franchise alive. Total Film got the low down from the film, here it is;

"Through discussions with Webster, Trebilcook landed the Die Hard 6 treatment-writing gig. Details are scarce at the moment, but we know that the story begins in New York, before moving to Tokyo, which will be the predominant location.

As the project’s at the treatment stage, we’ll have to wait to see if this one does progress to production, but Trebilcook thinks his take will please fans. “It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It’s also a very plausible storyline,” he told us

Clarifying the current status of Die Hard 6, Trebilcook added, “Getting Larry’s support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There's] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise."

So I decided to Google Ben Trebilcook, I couldn't find any god information out about him besides that fact that he is working on "Knockout" a film that is described as "a videogame-themed actioner set to star real-life martial arts stars." also I couldn't help but read and read the line "I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franhise" does this line not scare anybody?

"R.E.D 2" poster

We have a poster for the upcoming Action/Comedy "R.E.D 2", if you haven't seen the first one I highly recommend you watch it great action and some laughs. I'm a little bit confused though, I read that Morgan Freeman was returning for the sequel but his name doesn't appear on the poster is this on purpose? Or is he not returning?

"Die Hard 5" set video

An apparent spy video from the set of "A Good Day To Die Hard" has made it's way online, but if you ask me there is no way at all that this is fan recorded. I personally think it is a leak from the studio to build hype over the movie.

"Looper" poster

"Looper" looks to be a great movie, kind of like "Time Cop" but with a twist. Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis are playing the same character which in itself sounds crazy. I've starred at this poster for a good 10 minutes straight an can not seem to work anything out, if you can see anything of significance drop a comment. I'm guessing the "ball" object with wires is going to be the time travelling machine, other than that I've got nothing.

"Die Hard 5" set photos

 The first few pictures from "Die Hard 5" were a little bit boring, they didn't really show any action, But, these new ones show the carnage which is set to be unleashed in the film. The film may be low down on peoples radar due to it not being in production for long, but these pictures look like they are set to boom on our screens over the next few weeks/months.

Trailer "The Expendables 2"

This film looks incredible, nothing better than a testosterone fuelled action fest. How can you go wrong with a film that has John Rambo, John McClane, The Terminator, Wong Fei Hung, Walker Texas Ranger and Ivan Drago ha ha.

"A Good Day To Die Hard" set photos

If you don't recognise the title, don't worry I think/hope it is only the working title for the next instalment in the "Die Hard" franchise. I'm not 100% sold on the name yet, it seems to imply that they could be killing off somebody hopefully not Mr. Die Hard himself John McClane.

"The Expendables 2" character posters

It's hard work trying to get people hyped up over this film, the lack of media released is pretty low. But, it's safe to say that I am still pretty excited about it. These character posters are pretty bad ass, I think they will help pump the testosterone an get you all hyped up for this movie.
