I have been waiting for a Venom film for as long as I have been a Spider-Man fan, and that is a pretty long time!
In a move today that is said "to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen", Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that they will in association with Marvel being developing several new films within the Spider-Man franchise. These are sat to be being penned by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon and Drew Goddard with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach set to produce.
The five writers along with Webb and two producers have been kicking ass in forming their new Spidey related universe. This new deal with see Kurtzman, Orci and Pinkner are set to write the screenplay for the third instalment in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise in which they hope Webb will return to direct. That film is set to release in 2016 with the release of this film they are set to expand the universe even more so with Orci, Solomon and Kurtzman writing the screenplay for "Venom" which Kurtzman himself will direct.
The next step in their franchise is to have Goddard write and direct "The Sinister Six" movie, which will focus on the biggest and baddest villains in the Spidey-verse.
Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia
Pictures said;
"The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio's
greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have
assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt
have begun to explore in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Amazing
Spider-Man 2.' We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely
exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of
these upcoming films."
