"Suspiria" remake is official

David Gordon Green has been talking about remaking "Suspiria" for a while now, but it is now official. A press release was issued announcing that the film is scheduled to start filming in September.

"Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris today announced they will join forces with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril (I Am Love, Hotel Rwanda) from Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love) under his First Sun film banner to produce and finance SUSPIRIA, based on Dario Argento’s 1977 film of the same name. David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express) will direct from a script he penned with Chris Gebert. Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway will executive produce and Lisa Muskat will co-produce. Wild Bunch plans to sell international territories at Cannes in May while CAA represents the U.S. distribution rights.

Scheduled to begin filming in September, SUSPIRIA is a horror film centred on Suzie, a bright and ambitious American student who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a fellow student is brutally murdered and several other cruel and strange homicides disrupt the once quiet life on campus, Suzie realises that the academy may be a front for a more menacing organisation. Casting is already underway including for the coveted role of Suzy, the American student.

Crime Scene Pictures partners Ripp and Paris said: “We love the style and energy of the original film – and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film.” Producers Luca Guadagnino and Francesco Melzi d’Eril said: “We welcome Crime Scene Pictures to the team as we are thrilled to bring SUSPIRIA to life with an amazing talent such as David Gordon Green.” First Sun and Francesco Melzi d’ Eril produced the golden globe and BAFTA nominated film I Am Love starring Tilda Swinton and upcoming The LandLords.

Crime Scene Pictures is currently in pre-production on EVERLY, a thriller starring Kate Hudson with Joe Lynch directing from a Black List script by Yale Hannon which Sierra / Affinity virtually sold out on at EFM in Berlin last month"
