"Maniac Cop" prequel moving forward?

If you're not familiar with the title "Maniac Cop" don't worry, the original trilogy were released between 1988 and 1993 they are Action/Horror films that revolve around as the title says a Maniac Cop which is a man that commits brutal murders dressed as a cop. I will not give much more away, just go out and rent/buy them you will enjoy a lo I believe considering the B-Movie master Bruce Campbell stars in two of the three. Here is an official synopsis, because mine, well lacked detail;

 “Innocent people are brutally killed on the streets of New York by a uniformed police officer. A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself marked as the chief suspect after his wife is murdered. As Lieutenant Frank McCrae investigates, the death toll rises and he suspects a mysterious police cover-up. This “maniac” cop must be stopped, but it might not be so easy. He seems inhuman, and ready to take on the entire police force, hell-bent on revenge!”

 The article said that the movie will still keep the feel of the first three films, but will come with a much bigger budget. Even though the project is confirmed as moving forward this doesn't mean the film is 100% going to be made according to William Lustig (original director) whether or not Bruce Campbell will come back is another thing, I'd love to see him come back I'm a huge fan of his new stuff "Burn Notice" going back to his B-Movie days of "Evil Dead" and "Maniac Cop".
 “It’s going to be more a prequel than anything else, I am really excited to come back to this world especially since Nick is going to be a part of it… Nick (Winding Refn) has been talking to us about it for a while now and I had an idea that would work so we’re going to do it.”
